MARTHA JOSEPH
Martha Joseph (Oberlin ’09) is a classically trained singer who enjoys pushing musical boundaries. Pursuing degrees in Vocal Performance and Art History, Martha seeks to approach new cutting edge musical and art media with a strong awareness of tradition. She is currently working on an Honors Thesis in Art History addressing the relationship between medium and conceptual art in John Baldessari’s video works from the early 1970s. In studying and promoting art that refutes the formal engagements of painting and sculpture, she hopes for a revolution in perception and experience on the part of the viewer. Similarly, her engagement with New Music performance seeks to challenge but also appeal to listeners. Martha has sung and played electric bass with bands around campus such as the My Bloody Valentine Cover Band and Lionface. back to WAM!
